Richmond Sanitary Service has been in the garbage business since 1917 and now holds exclusive franchise agreements in nine local communities, serving over 65,000 households. Local Background and Experience
Richmond Sanitary Service currently provides residential and commercial solid waste, recycling, and/or organics collection, processing, and disposal services to West Contra Costa County communities, as well as the City of Piedmont. RSS also provides commercial solid waste service to Berkeley customers.

Unincorporated West Contra Costa County (includes El Sobrante, Bay View, Montalvin Manor, Tara Hills, Rollingwood, North Richmond, East Richmond Heights and Richmond Annex.
Richmond Sanitary Service, along with other local Republic Services, Inc. subsidiaries, comprise a fully integrated, non-hazardous, solid waste collection, recycling, processing and disposal operations in the West Contra Costa County marketplace.
Our services include solid waste collection, recycling and processing of materials, organics collection and composting, and transfer station operations for approximately 65,000 residential and 6,500 commercial and industrial customers. Over 95 percent of the company’s collection operations are subject to long-term Franchise Agreements with the municipalities we serve. RSS has maintained excellent relations with the communities we serve and our officers and staff take a very active role in these communities.
