Hazardous Waste

Many products found in your home are potentially hazardous substances. They can poison, corrode, explode, or ignite when handled improperly. When discarded in the trash, these substances are considered household hazardous waste that can threaten human and environmental health.

Source:  Central Contra Costa Sanitary District

It is illegal to dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) in your garbage or recycling. It must be taken to a licensed facility for treatment and recycling.

The West County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility (WCHHWCF) accepts household hazardous waste at its drive-through center at no charge to all residents of the RSS service area (unincorporated West Contra Costa County, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, Hercules, Crockett, Rodeo, Port Costa and Tormey).
